For the second time in two weeks, Bottineau County is dealing with a brine spill within the county.
According to the North Dakota Department of Health (NDDoH), on Wednesday, June 18, a 250 barrel brine spill took place from a pipeline owned by Enduro Operating.
The spill caused soil and surface contamination on the West Cutbank Creek in the area, which is located three and a half miles northeast of Mohall.
Enduro did respond and has cleaned up the soil and was removing the salt impacted water from the creek late last week.
“The NDDoH will work with the company on a remediation and mitigation plan,” the health department stated in a press release this past week.
In the first week of June, the county experienced another brine leak when Denbury Onshore had approximately 1000 barrels of salt brine spill at an injection site four and a half miles from Maxbass. It was estimated that around 100 barrels escaped the site and into a wetland area.
The clean-up in Maxbass is still ongoing.
The spill occurred due to a failure of a pipe fitting.
