Bottineau County election sees close to a thousand voters in primary election

The primary election this past Tuesday brought out 999 voters to the polls in Bottineau County that showed a strong support for the Republican Party.

In the primary, which calls for individuals to vote down party lines, the Republican Party received 61 percent of the vote, or 606 votes, while the Democrats obtained 30 percent of the vote, or 301 votes. The remaining votes went to Non-Partisan League (8 percent or 83 votes), the Libertarian Party (.09 percent or nine votes) and the remaining votes were either cross-overs or left blank.

FEDERAL

In the congressional vote for the House of Representatives, Kevin Cramer, R-ND, led the way with 584 votes, George Sinner, D-ND, received 287 votes while Robert Seaman, LP, ND had eight votes.

STATEWIDE

In statewide offices, the Republicans once again won out in every office against the Democrats for Bottineau County voters.
For the Secretary of State office, Al Jaeger received 580 votes to April Fairield’s 271 votes.

Wayne Stenehjem was given 596 votes for the Attorney General Office to Kiara Kraus-Parr’s 261 votes.

In the Agricultural Commissioner vote Doug Goehring had 579 votes while Ryan Taylor received 290 votes.

Brian Kalk, who is a Bottineau High School graduate, saw 585 votes in his favor for Public Service Commissioner over his opponent, Todd Resenauer, who received 268 votes.

In a two year position for the Public Service Commission Office, Julie Fedorchak had 570 votes to Tyler Axness 272 votes.

For Tax Commissioner, Ryan Rauschenberger received 570 votes to Jason Astrup 269 votes.

The Libertarian party had two individuals on the ballot for statewide offices, which included Roland Riemers receiving eight votes as a Secretary of State candidate, and Anthony Mangnall had eight votes for the tax commissioner office.

JUDGESHIPS

When it came to judgeships in Bottineau County, Gerald W. VandeWalle received 873 votes as the Justice of the North Dakota Supreme Court.

At the district level, Michael G. Sturdevant received 828 votes in the Northeast Judicial District No. 3 and Donovan Foughty saw 828 votes in the Northeast Judicial District No. 4.

COUNTY COMMISSIONERS

In the Bottineau County Commissioner race, only three incumbents were on the ballot with Todd Streich receiving the most votes with 199, LeRoy Rude received 191 votes and Daniel Marquardt had 152 votes.

COUNTY OFFICES

In county offices, the following individuals ran unopposed in their offices with the follow votes. County Auditor – Lisa Herbel with 894 votes; County Recorder – Bobbi Milbrath with 889 votes; County Treasurer – Ann Monson with 911 votes; County Sheriff – Steven Watson with 865 votes and County State Attorney – Swain Benson Sr. with 876 votes.

COUNTY NEWSPAPER

When it came to the County Official Newspaper, the Bottineau Courant also ran unopposed and received 803 votes.  

MEASURES

In Constitutional Measure No. 1 (House Concurrent Resolution No. 3034, 2013 Session Law, Ch. 518), the county voted 498 to 386 in favor of amending “five, six and seven of Article Three of the North Dakota Constitution by changing the filing deadline for the submission of initiated measure petitions from 90 days to 100 days before a statewide election, and by providing that any challenges regarding measure petitions must be filed with the Supreme Court no later than 75 days before the election.”
