The Bottineau Post 42 baseball team is beginning its 2014 American Legion season with four home games in a row.
The campaign was meant to start June 6 with a doubleheader at Lansford. However, after both of those games were called off, Bottineau opened with Rolette at home in a Monday evening doubleheader, the results of which came in after press time.
Bottineau will play at home again Friday when Washburn comes to town for a doubleheader. The first pitch of the first game is scheduled to go ahead at 5 p.m. at the Lumberyard baseball field at Dakota College at Bottineau.
Bottineau will follow those four games up with four consecutive outings on the road. A doubleheader at Cando is scheduled for next Monday, while Bottineau will again play twice next Wednesday, June 18, at Velva.
There’ll be a very quick turnaround after that. Bottineau will play Makoti twice at home June 19 before hosting Langdon and Garrison June 21 in Bottineau’s own tournament.
Bottineau’s looking to improve upon what it did in Legion play a year ago when it finished with an 8-15 record.
The team hopes to do well this season through to and beyond the Class B sectional tournament July 23-26 in Makoti.
This year’s Class B Legion state tournament is set to begin July 30 in Wahpeton.
