The newest hire within the Dakota College at Bottineau athletic department will be a familiar face to many.

Allison Scherr is a DCB alumna and former basketball and volleyball standout for the Ladyjacks. Now, she’s taking over the school’s softball and volleyball programs.

The Mohall native has most recently been serving as an assistant coach for DCB’s women’s basketball team. She had been working with the Ladyjacks hoopsters under head coach Wayne Johnson, who himself had formerly coached the school’s softball team.

Scherr will get the reins to the DCB volleyball team from former head coach Cory Fehringer. Fehringer, who was also the head coach of the school’s men’s basketball team, was named May 22 as the new men’s hoops coach at Williston State.

The Ladyjacks’ volleyball team struggled in 2013. DCB posted a 6-23 record last season, and five sophomores wrapped up their Ladyjack careers.

On the softball side, Scherr is taking over for Mike Getzloff. The Ladyjack softball team is coming off of a very good 2014 season in which they finished with a 23-9 record and made the program’s first-ever NJCAA Revion XIII postseason finals appearance.

They will, however, have to make up for the loss of six seniors from the Ladyjacks’ 2014 squad.

Between graduating from DCB and returning as an assistant coach, Scherr continued her schooling in North Dakota and earned a degree in Elementary Education from Valley City State University.
