Yet another Bottineau High School student-athlete is set to take her talents the short walk up Simrall Boulevard to Dakota College at Bottineau.
Danielle McDonald, a two-sport senior for the BHS Stars, has signed with DCB to play basketball and volleyball for the Ladyjacks starting in the fall.
Standing at 5-foot-8, McDonald has served as a forward for the Stars’ basketball team and averaged 11.2 points, 7.8 rebounds and two assists per game in her senior season. She also had 17 blocked shots in her final season for BHS, thus helping her being named an all-district player for the 2013-14 season.
“Danielle is a very good addition to our 2014-15 team,” DCB women’s basketball coach Wayne Johnson said. “She is an excellent shooter, especially from long range, with good basketball court sense.
“She rebounds the ball well and has a solid inside game. She will be able to play multiple positions for the Ladyjacks and create matchup problems for opponents.
“We are very pleased to have signed Danielle and believe she will be a solid addition to our Ladyjack squad.”
On the volleyball court, McDonald was a two-time all-region and all-district selection for the Stars and was named the team’s most valuable player in her senior season. She led the 2013 BHS volleyball team in kills with 289 and scored 50 serving aces while serving at an 87 percent efficiency rating.
In her career with the Stars’ volleyball team, she appeared in 270 games and recorded 726 kills and 136 aces in that span.
“Danielle is a quality signing for our 2014 Ladyjacks team,” Ladyjacks head volleyball coach Cory Fehringer said. “She has played at a high level for a number of years for a very good Stars team.
“We need to improve our offensive attack, and Danielle will definitely help our outside hitting. She is an athletic and powerful hitter who will add to our offensive firepower.”
