Ahead of its 2013-14 season, Dakota College at Bottineau’s women’s basketball program had only ever fielded two NJCAA All-Americans.
The Ladyjacks can now add a third to that list.
Imani Scott, a freshman guard for DCB, was named this month as a third-team selection on the list of 2014 NJCAA Division II All-Americans. Thirty players in all are listed, with ten selected to each of the three teams.
An Akron, Ohio product, Scott joins Stanley native McKenzie Nohr (2007) and Pontiac, Mich.’s Shannon Smith (2011) as the only NJCAA All-American women’s basketball players ever to don Ladyjacks uniforms.
Scott is one of three freshmen on the NJCAA D-II third team and one of only seven on the entire list of 30 players.
She led the Ladyjacks last season in several statistical categories. Over 34 games played, she averaged the most minutes on the floor (28.1 per game) and had a team-best 16 points per game.
Scott also led the team from the free throw line, draining shots from the stripe at a 79.6 percent clip.
What’s more, she came up huge when stakes were highest. Her 32 points and six three-pointers March 9 in an 83-67 District F title game victory over North Platte (Neb.) Community College helped lift DCB to its first-ever birth in the NJCAA national tournament.
“This is well deserved recognition for a player who had a great year and was so instrumental in the Ladyjacks’ run to the nationals,” DCB head coach Wayne Johnson said. “She stepped up so often for us, especially in the big games.
“She plays both ends of the court and has a great passion for the game. Imani is a quiet leader whose effort on and off the court has earned the respect of her teammates. We are all very proud of Imani Scott.”
