The board of the State Bank of Bottineau has made the decision to construct a new bank building, which will be on Highway 5 in the same location where the State Bank of Bottineau Insurance Agency is presently located.
“We have outgrown the facility,” said Pat Artz, president of the State Bank of Bottineau. “We also feel we will have better exposure on Highway 5. It’s the best bank location in town. It is right on the corner of Main Street and Highway 5. It can’t get any better than that.”
NEW STRUCTURE
The structure will have 11,300 square feet on its main floor and have a partial basement. The layout of the building will see State Bank of Bottineau Insurance, Investment Center of America and a board room on the west side of the building, which will take about one-third of the entire edifice.
The remaining two-thirds of structure will be the bank, along with a two lane drive-up which will be located on the east side of the building.
Between the east and west sides of the structure, there will be a communal hallway so customers can enter into the building and have access to the different businesses in the facility and its board room. It also allows for the three businesses and the board room to hold different hours with one common entryway and hallway.
The board room will also be offered to the general public to utilize.
“It is going to be for any public entity that wants to have meetings there,” Artz said. “We will be open to things like that.”
The outside of the new facility will have a brick wainscoting, along with a piece of the state bank’s history that dates back to 1901 when the establishment originated.
“Our architecture, JLG, took some ideas from the outside structure from our old Souris bank,” Artz stated. “We wanted to take some history from the beginning of State Bank of Bottineau.”
The bank will break ground in the spring after the frost leaves the ground with an estimated opening date of spring 2015.
PRESENT BUILDINGS
The present State Bank structure on the highway has been donated to the Veterans of Foreign Wars of Bottineau County and will be moved to the new Bottineau County Memorial Building location on the north end of town and across from the Bottineau Fair Grounds.
“We gave that as a donation to them,” Artz said. “It is our freedoms as a country and our way of saying thank you to the veterans of Bottineau County for what they have sacrificed for us.”
The structure is expected to be moved some time in April of 2014.
The current building on Thompson Street will go to the city of Bottineau at no cost to the city.
“The city in the future will need new city offices,” Artz said. “So, this is our way in saving tax payers of Bottineau money, because if the city has to construct a new place for their offices taxes will go up in the community.
“It obviously helps us (State Bank) as tax payers with our K1,” Artz added. “But, it is a win-win for everybody, which includes the stockholders, the city employees and the city of Bottineau real estate owners.”
The State Bank of Bottineau Insurance will be re-located to the former Dakota Memories building, which is directly west of where the insurance building currently is located. The move will be completed on April 7, or before that time.
THE FUTURE
Artz stated the State Bank of Bottineau is pleased with its future project.
“We are excited. It is a positive thing for our employees, our customers, the community and our future customers,” he said. “It tells our people we are committed to the future.”
