The Bottineau County Ambulance has improved the manner they can take care of local patients due to an oil impact grant which helped them acquire a new vehicle and a piece of equipment they carry in it.
“We applied for the grant back in September and in November we received a $25,000 grant,” said Jason Boan, a Texas native who is the director and paramedic for the Bottineau Ambulance Service. “We used the money to purchase a Quick Response Vehicle and a heart monitor for the vehicle.”
The Quick Response Vehicle the ambulance service purchased is a 2007 Dodge Durango, and it plays an important part in the ambulance members’ abilities in treating their patients.
When a 911 call comes in to the ambulance service, the Quick Response Vehicle can get to the scene at a faster pace than the ambulance, granting the ambulance crew a faster response time.
“Instead of waiting on a volunteer driver and EMT to get here, the paramedic on call can get to the scene quicker, up to 10 minutes before the ambulance gets there,” Boan said. “And, we have everything in the vehicle to treat anything. We have a heart monitor, medications, oxygen; we have everything we need to treat those we respond to.”
Boan said the Quick Response Vehicle has been utilized in the area for close to two months and has literally been a life saver.
“It has worked liked we planned,” he said.
