Area athletes named to postseason teams

Area athletes received honors this past week for their work on the court this past regular season at both the college and high school levels.

On the high school side Hunter Braaten and Ethan Miller of Westhope-Newburg were both named to the All-Region team for Region 6 following the conclusion of the region tournament.

Braaten averaged 26.5 points and 3.6 assists for his senior season that ended at the district level. Miller averaged 14.6 points and 10 rebounds per game.

The All-MonDak teams were also released on the college side of the action.

Dakota College at Bottineau’s Julian Vasquez was named to the All-MonDak first team, while Jalyn Turner was named to the second team. Imani Scott was named to the All-MonDak second team for the women.

The trio was also on the All-Region team for Region XIII following their region titles. Savannah Bruce was also named to the All-Region team for the women.

Also on the men’s All-MonDak first team was former Bottineau High standout Justin McCloud, who played two years for the Bismarck State Mystics.

As a Mystic this past season, McCloud led BSC with 19.9 points per game and 6.6 rebounds per game.

He also shot a blistering 47.2 percent on three point shots on 161 attempts.  

Including this past week’s games Vasquez averaged 18.4 points, 6.6 rebounds and 3.5 assists per game. Turner averaged 12.1 points per game in 32 games.

On the girls side Scott led the Ladyjacks by scoring 15.6 points per game in 31 games. Bruce averaged 13.4 points and 6.2 rebounds per game in 28 games for DCB.
