The Bottineau School Board held its monthly meeting on Monday, Feb. 17, and discussed a number of items, some of which included the Facilities Master Plan, the next school board election and fuel bids.

FACILITIES MASTER PLAN

On Feb. 6, the school board’s Facilities Master Plan’s committee met with Doug Larson of JLG (the architectural firm which is designing the school’s plans for its renovations and additions) to discuss the schematics of placing K-12 under one roof with additions to the primary school that is located in the northeast section of the city.

The discussion on Monday evening detailed if there was enough space in that area for expansion and what type of expansion could take place; whether or not the additions should hold PK-5 or PK-6; if there was enough playground space on the grounds and where entry points for the public would be situated, along with parking.

Other issues included drop-off and pick-ups for buses, and if one library would be feasible.

In the discussion, the board and all those involved in the discussion agreed with having students and staff in one building was a positive step forward, along with having separate cafeterias for the elementary students and junior/senior students and not having teachers and administrators driving back and forth between the elementary and primary schools.

The school board will continue to confer on the plans and setup dates for the public forums.

SCHOOL BOARD ELECTION

The school board election also came up during the meeting and the board members chose Tuesday, June 10, as the day of the election, which will be held in the hallway in front of the Holwell Auditorium.

Presently, there are three seats that are up on the school board, which includes Gigi Artz and Paul Olson’s seats, which are three year terms; and, Adam Frykman’s seat, which is a two year term. A seat which Frykman is completing for Dr. Mark Pewe who resigned in late 2013 due to personal reasons.

Petitions for the board can be picked up at the high school office and individuals have until Friday, April 7 at 4 p.m. to meet the deadline for the petitions.

DIESEL BIDS

Diesel bids were open for 7,000 gallons of winter blend fuel, which included three bids consisting of the Bottineau Farmers Elevator at $3.70 a gallon, Gustafson Oil at $3.83 and Northern Fuel Partners at $3.74. The bid was granted to the Bottineau Farmers Elevator.
