It was a dominant weekend for the Bottineau 19U hockey team as they shut out all three teams they faced in a road trip.
On Saturday afternoon the Stars topped the Mayport Ice Dawgz 5-0. Later that evening the Stars again earned a shut out with an 11-0 victory over Park River. Lastly, Bottineau topped Langdon 8-0 on Sunday in Langdon.
In the win over Mayport the Stars’s goaltender Jacie Ceglowski earned her seventh shut out this season with an 15-save performance.
Goals for the Stars in the game came from Hunter Bennie, Paige Vad, Erin Severson, Katie Kerslake and Megan Olson.
Later that evening the Stars earned the second shut out of the day, but this time it was Alexis Gullett who earned the shutout, her third this season. She stopped all 10 shots by Park River in the game.
Ceglowski scored two goals at forward in the game. Other goal scorers included: Severson, Karlee McCloud, Bennie, Vad, Shelby Pedie, Victoria Gullett, Sonja Gilje, Kerslake and Olson.
“The girls worked on passing the puck and making good decisions with the puck,” stated Stars head coach Matt Johnson.
On Sunday the Stars stepped up to a challenge against a strong Langdon team.
“Sunday’s game against Langdon was slated to be the toughest test of the weekend,” Johnson stated. “Langdon has a good record and has been playing very well as of late.”
However, the Stars earned yet another shut out as Ceglowski stopped 18 shots to get her eighth shut out in an 8-0 win.
Gilje struck first blood for the Stars with a goal near the midpoint of the first period. Victoria Gullett assisted on the play.
Bottineau did their best to step it up in the second period.
“(We) regrouped between periods and came out ready to play in the second,” Johnson stated.
And the Stars sure did that, as they scored five times in the period to take a 6-0 lead.
Bennie opened the scoring in the second as she notched a goal at 1:38. Severson found McCloud about 30 seconds later to make it 3-0.
McCloud was not done as she scored about 30 more seconds later at 2:42. Severson and Alexis Kihle earned helpers on the goal.
Bennie scored for the second time of the period to put the Stars up 5-0. Vad and Kerslake were credited with assists on the play.
Bennie completed her hat trick before the period ended as she scored midway through the second on a great pass from Kerslake.
“(We) completely dominated the second period outshooting Langdon 21–5 in the period,” Johnson stated.
Gilje notched her second goal with an unassisted marker in the third period. Bailey Neubauer rounded out the scoring for the Stars with a strong goal from the point. Bennie and Vad earned assists on the goal.
“The Langdon game was a nice convincing win over a good team,” Johnson stated. “Nice to see the girls put everything together and play a well-rounded game with numerous goals, a shutout and no penalties taken.”
The Stars close out their regular season at home this weekend with games on Friday and Saturday. On Friday the Stars host Langdon at 6:45 p.m. At 2 p.m. on Saturday the Stars host Hazen for a senior night to recognize seniors Neubauer, McCloud and Bennie.
