Westhope-Newburg (WN) closed out their District 11 regular season by earning their first district win last Tuesday in Drake.
The Sioux topped the Drake-Anamoose Lady Raiders by double digits, winning 42-30 for their third win of the season overall.
The Lady Sioux led throughout the contest, as they went ahead by three after one quarter, and led 19-13 at halftime.
They played even better offensively in the second half as they scored 23 points to the Raiders’ 17 to earn the 12-point win.
Junior Amber Hall had the best game of her career with 19 points for the Sioux in the win. Fellow juniors Molly Lodoen (12 points) and Lauren Mach (seven points) also played well in the victory.
The Raiders were led by Gracee Buri’s eight points, as they dropped their 16th game of the season, and their 12th straight.
The win for the Sioux snapped a five-game losing skid, and puts them at 3-13 overall. It also clinched the seventh seed for the Sioux in the upcoming District 11 Tournament.
They will play second seeded Velva to open the tournament, which begins on Feb. 28 in Rugby.
The Aggies topped the Sioux 60-16 in their regular season match up back on Jan. 24, and boast a 13-3 overall record this season.
