Brooks to continue baseball career after DCB

About this time next year Cody Brooks will be dreaming about getting out onto a baseball diamond, much like he might be thinking now.
However, the difference will be that Brooks will be at Mayville State University, instead of Dakota College at Bottineau (DCB), where he now resides.
The 2012 Bottineau High School graduate and Jacks baseball standout recently signed a letter of intent to play for the Comets beginning in the spring of 2014.
For him, there was one simple reason for his decision to continue to play.
“For the love the game,” Brooks said. “I absolutely love baseball, and I think I’m a fairly good athlete, fairly good at baseball.”
As for why he selected the Comets, it wasn’t all because they’ve been a successful program (they went 35-8-1 in 2013).
“They actually talked to me before my senior year of high school, and I filled out a recruit form, but I didn’t hear from them,” Brooks said. “After DCB, I still wanted to play and I needed a place to go, and Mayville is a great baseball school.”
“I figured I could get my college degree there too,” Brooks added.
Brooks batted .333 with seven runs and six runs batted in in 39 at-bats last season for the Jacks from his first base position. He hopes to continue that success this spring, and then transfer it on to the Comets next year.
“I just want to keep the tradition alive, and keep winning,” Brooks said. “They have a winning record every season, and I just want to do everything I can to help them win as many games as we can.”
Brooks is positive that he’ll get some playing time in his two years at Mayville.
“My position is open, so I have a feeling that I will get a chance play in the next two years,” Brooks said. “And to play for a successful school I know that I’ll be having fun, because it’s fun to win.”
Another good piece of luck for Brooks is that now DCB teammate J.J. Dukes will also be heading to Mayville next year, as he too signed with the Comets.
“It’ll be great, because I don’t have to necessarily be the new guy that won’t know anybody,” Brooks said. “I’m sure I’ll make friends, and it will be a great group of guys, but having someone you know it will help a lot.”
For now, Brooks will have to hope the snow melts so he can get on the field.
