The Bottineau 19U hockey team got two wins this past weekend, including a big 3-0 revenge victory over Watford City (WC) last Saturday.

The Stars also topped Williston on Saturday, but fell 3-1 to the Richland Rangers on Friday night.

In the win over WC it was the Stars’ game to start the game. However, despite a shot advantage in the first period, neither team scored.

Erin Severson broke that tie with a goal midway through the second. Hunter Bennie and Karlee McCloud assisted on the goal.

Bennie made the score 2-0 when she tallied a marker about seven minutes into the third period. McCloud earned another helper on the goal.

McCloud earned her own goal with an empty-netter late to secure the shut out victory. Severson and Bennie assisted on the play.

It was the sixth shutout this season for Bottineau goaltender Jacie Ceglowski, who was stout in net.

“The girls come out flying and took control of the game from the drop of the puck,” stated Stars head coach Matt Johnson. “It was a very good win for the girls.”

Bottineau earned another win later that day as they got another shutout in a 10-0 win over Williston.

The Stars scored twice in the opening period, twice more in the second and six in the final frame to make it 10-0. They out shot the Cougars 45-3.

Scoring goals in the contest were: Sonja Gilje (two), McCloud, Bennie, Severson, Bailey Neubauer, Megan Olson, Jacie Ceglowski, Alexis Kihle and Paige Vad.

Alexis Gullett earned the shut out between the pipes.

The Stars did drop one game against a strong Richland Rangers team 3-1 in Sidney, Mont. last Friday evening.

The Rangers took the lead in the first period with a goal that made it 1-0. Richland scored once again in the second, despite a better effort from the Stars’ according to Johnson.

“The girls play showed the long drive out there in the first period with some slow legs,” Johnson stated. “The girls picked up the play in the second and started to generate more chances.”

In the final period the Stars finally found the back of the net as Shelby Pedie notched an unassisted marker, but the Rangers also scored in the period to keep the two-goal victory intact.

“The third period was very rough and highly contested,” Johnson stated.

The Stars are 10-8-2 overall on the season.

Bottineau has another big weekend ahead as they host three games.

On Saturday they will play both West Fargo and Mayport at 12:15 and 5:30 p.m. respectively. At 12:15 p.m. on Sunday the Stars will host Fargo, who they fell 3-1 to back on Dec. 22 in Fargo.
