It was a heartbreaking loss for the Bottineau girls basketball team as they were upended 47-44 by Rolette-Wolford last Friday night, the first of two non-district losses on the weekend.
The game was back and forth throughout, as there were several lead changes and the teams exchanged baskets on many occasions.
However, in crunch time the Stars were unable to get the upper hand and the Comets earned the three-point win.
Senior Danielle McDonald led the Stars and all scorers with 19 points. She also added five rebounds and a team-best five assists.
Stephanie Brenden led the Stars with eight rebounds and also scored eight points. Senior Rachael Fix added a pair of steals, five boards and three assists.
The Comets had four players in double figures in the victory.
Without leading scorer Brenden, Bottineau fell 87-28 last Saturday in Cando to North Star.
The Bearcats attacked the Stars early and often and scored 26 points in the first quarter to help get a 44-12 lead at halftime.
The lead continued to grow in the second half as the Bearcats were just too much for the Stars to handle.
Allie Heisler finished with a game-high 31 points, while Macey Kvilvang and Sarah Hagler had 20 and 18 respectively for North Star.
Senior Courtney Gallagher had 11 to lead the Stars. Fellow seniors Megan Saville (six) and Danielle McDonald (five) were the other leaders for the Stars.
Bottineau (3-5) also hosted Mohall-Lansford-Sherwood last night, but scores and stats were unavailable by press time.
The Stars next game will be at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday as they host Towner-Granville-Upham for their second District 11 match up.
