Jacks down Mystics for eighth straight win

A 102-94 win over Bismarck State College (BSC) has put the Dakota College at Bottineau (DCB) winning streak at eight.

The 18th ranked Jacks led the Division I Mystics throughout the entire contest, leading by seven at halftime, and putting them away by eight in the end.

Sophomore Julian Vasquez had a career night with a season-high 40 points and a team-best eight rebounds.

Freshman guard Jalyn Turner added 21 points as DCB shot 53.5 percent from the field and 48 percent from downtown. Vasquez was 5-for-9 to lead the Jacks from deep.

Gilberto Shojgreen and Xavier Cruz each added 10 points off the bench.

The Jacks withstood a 29-for-35 day from the free throw line by the Mystics, and won thanks to a 42-36 advantage on the board, including 12 offensive rebounds.

Tanner Purintun had 20 points to lead the Mystics, while former Bottineau High star Justin McCloud had 17 points off the bench, and was a perfect 2-for-2 from beyond the arc.

DCB, ranked No. 18 in National Junior College Athletic Association Division II and 18-2 overall, also played last night against United Tribes Community College, but scores and stats were unavailable by press time.

The Jacks play at 8 p.m. on Thursday in Williston against the Tetons of Williston State College for another MonDak meeting.

The Jacks and Mystics will play again in Bottineau on Feb. 3.

Notes:

DCB is averaging a stellar 93.6 points per game on 51.5 percent shooting as a team this season.

Vasquez is leading the team with 16.8 points and 6.6 rebounds per game.

Two other Jack are averaging double figures in points as freshman Jalyn Turner has 12.4 points per game and Xavier Cruz has 12 points per game.

Freshman Gilberto Shojgreen is fourth in all of the NJCAA Division II with a 70.5 field goal percentage.

In 15 games Justin McCloud is averaging a team-high 19.9 points per game this season, including 43.2 percent shooting from three point range.
