Bottineau’s city sales tax has been finalized for 2013 and has increased by over $150,000 from 2012.
City documents show that in 2013, city sales tax came in at $1,103,364. When compared to 2012, city sales tax was $945,008, which is a difference of $158,356.
The specifics of the increase in sales tax are not certain because the state will not break down where the sales tax has been spent in Bottineau.
“I can’t call down to the state to find out how much Walmart paid in or the Spectrum paid in because that is private,’ said Penny Nostdahl, Bottineau’s city auditor. “The best I can say is that overall sales are up in the city of Bottineau.”
In 2009, city sales tax has increased each year, which include:
- 2009 - $773,574
- 2010 - $813,776
- 2011 - $835,160
- 2012 - $945,008
- 2013 - $1,103,364
City sales tax is utilized for paving in the community, the local EDC and city’s projects.
