Bottineau girls basketball gets big win over St. John Woodchucks

The Bottineau Stars got their season back on track with a 69-38 blowout victory last Thursday in St. John.

The Stars jumped out to an early lead against the Woodchucks as they scored 15 points in the first quarter and led 33-16 at halftime.
By the end of the third quarter that lead was up to 25 points and ended with a 69-38 win.

Junior Stephanie Brenden had a season-best 24 points in the win. She also added seven rebounds, four assists, four steals and a pair of blocks.

Also strong in the win was senior Danielle McDonald. The forward had a double-double with 13 points and 13 boards. She also added five assists, three steals and a pair of blocks.

Fellow senior Courtney Gallagher added eight points and six rebounds, while freshman Jocelyn Jahner had eight points, and junior Kennedy Olson had seven points and eight rebounds.

Larissa Hoover had 15 points to lead the Woodchucks in the losing effort.

The win pushed the Stars to 2-3 on the season, and was the first win for the Stars since a 58-42 win over Westhope-Newburg in the season’s opening weekend.

The Stars and the Sioux will meet up again at 5:45 p.m. tonight in Westhope for each teams respective District 11 opener. The game will be the first part of a girls/boys doubleheader.
