The Bottineau School Board held its December meeting and discussed summer projects for 2014, a school board vacancy and a retirement from the teacher’s staff.
PROJECTS
The school board approved nine summer projects, which include:
- Two new unit ventilators in the science rooms
- New exterior door by the band room
- Ceiling tiles in the junior-senior hallway
- Ceiling tiles in the junior-senior library
- Paint Hallway 10
- Carpet in the band room
- Brick work in front of the Holwell Auditorium
- New windows and panels in the 1957 addition
- Remodel the boy’s locker room
The board also approved three other projects, which will take place either this winter or during the summer months. They include:
- Air unit in boiler room
- Atomic clock system
- Broom for the Bobcat
SCHOOL BOARD SEAT
With the resignation of Dr. Mark Pewe from the school board, the board requested applications to fill Pewe’s seat. However, no applications were sent in for the position. With the seat still open, Jason Kersten, superintendent of the Bottineau School District, is researching the next step the district can do with the open position.
“I am in the process of seeking information from the School Boards Association to see if we can finish the year with six board members,” Kersten said. “Or, if we can simply appoint someone.”
RESIGNATION
Rod Schmidt, building trades instructor, presented a letter of resignation to the school board, which stated he will be retiring at the end of the school year.
He and his wife plan to move to Minnesota to be closer to their children.
FACILITY MASTER PLAN
Kersten stated the committee “has not prioritized the deferred maintenance in the Facility Master Plan” at the present moment.
He added the committee would start its studies on the plan in the new year.
