The Bottineau-Rugby (BR) Braves earned their second straight victory last Monday night as they downed visiting Deloraine 8-3 at a game in Bottineau.

BR fell behind in the early going as Deloraine struck first blood less than three minutes into the opening frame.

The Braves rebounded nicely, however, as junior Luke Amsbuagh tied the game midway through the period. Austyn Lorenz assisted on the play.

Late in the first BR took their first lead as senior Andrew Hill broke the tie. Fellow senior Harrison Aide and Amsbaugh were each credited with assists on the play.

The Braves’ lead expanded in the second quarter as Lorenz found the back of the net with 13:15 left in the period. Junior Noah Grant and senior Nigel Hageness had helpers on the goal, which put the Braves up 3-1.

Deloraine scratched past another goal later in the period to draw the game to within 3-2.

BR would not be out done though as Amsbaugh netted his second goal of the evening thanks to a well-threaded pass from Aide.

Deloraine would add a third goal late in the period, but that would be as close as they got.

The Braves scored four more times in the final frame and senior goaltender Riley Monson shut out Deloraine in the final frame to earn an 8-3 win.

Monson finished with 22 saves in 25 opportunities.

The Braves’ third period scoring flurry was kicked off by Lorenz, who was assisted by Grant.

BR’s sixth goal came via an unassisted marker by junior Braden Pewe.

A little more than two minutes later and Lorenz earned his first career hat trick as he found the back of the net thanks to a good assist from senior Cody Bedlion.

Amsbuagh also earned a hat trick, his second straight game with one, with an unassisted goal with 3:58 remaining in the contest.

Amsbaugh now has seven goals and four assists in three game for the Braves. Aide, who had the pair of assists had five goals and seven helpers this season.

BR, now 2-1 overall, is currently in fourth place in the West Region with three points. Their next game will be a game at 7 p.m. on Friday in Rugby. The Braves will host Hazen-Beulah.

The Braves also played in Boissevain last night, but scores and stats were unavailable by press time.
