Wins over Jamestown JV and Minot Air Force Base (MAFB) as part of the Lane Johnson Classic in Bismarck kept the Dakota College at Bottineau (DCB) men’s basketball season rolling along this past weekend.

The Jacks cruised past the Jimmies 86-62 on Friday’s opener of the Classic, and then took care of the MAFB 99-88 to improve their record to 13-2 on the year.

First on Friday the Jacks got off to a blistering pace as they scored 49 first-half points and led by 24 at the break as they played the Jimmies to kick off the Lane Johnson Classic.

Four Jacks players scored in double figures in the win as Julian Vasquez and Gilberto Shojgreen each had 13 points to lead DCB.

Patrick Robinson (12) and Justin Musgrave (10) also notched double digits in points. Vasquez also added six rebounds, while freshman Xavier Cruz added eight assist to lead the Jacks to the win.

The Jimmies were led by Justin Heisler who had 20 points and hit 4-of-5 three pointers.

DCB earned another victory on Saturday, although it came in a tougher fashion as they played a strong MAFB team.

The offense was again strong in the first half for the Jacks, but MAFB also poured in the points as DCB held on to a 53-47 lead at the break.

The Jacks maintained their lead through several MAFB second half runs and wound up with an 11-point victory.

Shojgreen had his strongest showing as a Jack this season. The freshman came out and had a double-double with 18 points and 10 rebounds.

Vasquez was again strong for DCB as he led the team with 25 points and hit all four of his attempts from beyond the arc.

Cruz had another good game as a point guard off the bench as he finished with 10 points and seven assists.

The Jacks out rebounded MAFB 47-35, but allowed Julius Philpot to score 28 points. Victor Calcote also played well in the losing effort for MAFB. He finished with 17 points and nine rebounds.
Wesley Harrison (10) and Jalyn Turner (16) were in double digits in scoring for the Jacks in the win.

The Jacks will try and get to 15 wins as they wrap up the semester with a pair of games this week. They will travel to play Turtle Mountain Community College at 8 p.m. on Tuesday night in Belcourt and then host Jamestown JV at 8 p.m. on Friday night for their last action before the semester break.

Notes:

Vasquez is now averaging 16 points per game through 15 games and is shooting over 50 percent on the season from the field.

Freshman Xavier Cruz has been the Jacks’ top threat off the bench and is currently averaging 13.6 points and 4.1 assists per game this season.
