Diane Olson will be retiring as the EDC director of Bottineau County at the end of the month, and with retirement just weeks away a reception was held in her honor on Wednesday afternoon.
Olson has been the EDC director since 1999 and played an influential role in improving the economy of the county, especially the businesses in downtown Bottineau.
“I am proud of Main Street,” Olson said. “I feel we have a nice, workable Main Street that looks good.”
In her time as the director, Olson also assisted in establishing a number of businesses in the county’s communities.
“All the communities are doing well,” Olson said. “Whether it is Westhope, Lansford or any other community, I think all the communities are doing well with their businesses.”
She also played an important role in establishing Turtle Mountain Park, Turtle Mountain Veterinary Services, Dakota College at Bottineau’s Entrepreneur Center for Horticulture and the community day care center being constructed at DCB at the present moment.
In her time as the EDC director, Olson stated that she has enjoyed herself and will miss the people she has worked with in her job.
Linda Heidbreder has been the EDC secretary for six years and retired in October after what she said was a pleasant experience.
