Awards pour in for Bottineau County teams

The Bottineau area was well represented recently as several area players were recognized for their efforts in the recently completed fall sports season.

First for the Bottineau Braves football team several players were awarded with postseason honors.

Senior Cody Bedlion was the lone Brave to be honored at the state level as he was named to the Second Team All-State as an offensive lineman.

Three other players along with Bedlion were named to the All-Region team for the Braves. They were seniors Tanner Bickford and Jake Carroll and junior Ethan Kerslake.

Bottineau also had three honorable mentions at the region level and they were senior Andrew Hill, junior Alex Bristol and sophomore Jayhawk Shriver.

“I am very proud and happy for the players that were selected for these awards, I definitely feel like they deserved them,” stated Braves head coach Rob Bedlion. “All of these young men have worked very hard and have earned these honors because of their high levels of dedication and work ethic. Congratulations to all of them.”

The Bottineau volleyball team was also busy dishing out several postseason accolades following their 26-8 season.

Seniors Bailey Neubauer and Danielle McDonald were both named to the All-Region and All-District. Junior Stephanie Brenden was also an All-District member.

The Stars also handed out team awards recently at a end of the year banquet.

Junior Kennedy Olson was named Most Improved. Senior Rachael Fix was given the Best Defensive Player award. Brenden was named the Hardest Worker. Senior Courtney Gallagher was given the ACE Award, Karlee McCloud was named the Best All-Around Player and Neubauer and McDonald were named co-Most Valuable Players.

It was also announced that Fix broke the record for career serving percentage. She finished her three year career serving at a 98.3 percent clip.

The Stars graduate five seniors in Gallagher, Neubauer, McDonald, McCloud and Fix.

They will return juniors Brenden, Olson and Skyler Patterson, as well as sophomores Shelby Grenier and Kaytlyn Aufforth.

For the Newburg-Westhope Eagles volleyball team they had a lone All-District player in junior Lauren Mach.

For the Westhope-Newburg-Glenburn football team they had four players make the nine-man All-State team after finishing as runner-ups.

Senior Hunter Braaten was named the All-State quarterback as well as Senior Athlete of the Year, and sophomore Dustin Weeks was named to the First Team All-State as well.

Senior Ethan Miller and sophomore Chase Conway were named to the Second Team All-State.

Those four players along with senior Hawkin Smette were named to the All-Region team as well. Sophomore Michael Lemay was named an honorable mention.
