The highly praised quilter Marti Michell visited Bottineau over the weekend and made a significant mark on area quilters who attended Bottineau’s Simple Thread’s Trunk Show and lecture.

Michell spent two days in Bottineau where she held workshops at the Cobblestone Inn and Suites in “The Rosette and its Relatives” on Friday and “Kaleidoscope Creations” on Saturday.

Friday evening she held a lecture on “Life beyond Strip Piecing.”
Michell is known worldwide in her quilting skills and is the most sought after quilter.

She has put on events in 48 of the 50 states in the nation (including 26 countries) and made North Dakota her 49th state with her visit to Bottineau.

Michell stated that her decision to come to Bottineau was to check off one of the states on her Bucket List. She also stated that her visit to Bottineau was the smallest community she has every held workshops in and she was happy to have chosen Bottineau, because Michell said the people of the area were productive as a rural community in the U.S. and extraordinarily friendly toward her, which she appreciated.

In 41 years, Michell has been designing patterns and products, authoring books on quilting and traveling extensively to teach the world about the art of quilting.

Michell started her quilting career on her parents’ farm in Des Moines, Iowa, where her mother taught her how to sew at a young age. She went on to earn numerous accolades in 4-H, a degree in textile and clothing and home economic journalism from Iowa State University in Ames, developed a company in association with quilting and became an educator in the field.

All three events were well attended over the weekend and made a lasting impression on those who attended. According to Carmen Dolbeare, co-owner of Bottineau’s Simple Threads with Janet Carnahan, Michell made an impact on the quilters who participated in a fun and professional manner, which everyone enjoyed.
