One of the best quilters in the world is going to be making an appearance in Bottineau on Nov. 8 and 9 at the Cobblestone Inn where she will be holding a lecture and two workshops on quilting.

Marti Michell, in association with Simple Thread of Bottineau, will be in the local community this Friday and Saturday where she will hold a one day class on “The Rosette and its Relatives” on Friday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and  “Kaleidoscope Creations” on Saturday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

She will also hold an evening lecture on Friday from 6 to 9 p.m. titled “Life beyond Strip Piecing.”

Michell is known worldwide for her skill and talent in the quilting industry and is the most sought after quilter when it comes to lecturing and hands-on workshops.

She has put on events on in 48 of the 50 states in the U.S., along with 40 countries worldwide. Michell will make North Dakota this weekend the 49th state she has lectured and taught in.

In 41 years, Michell has been designing patterns and products, authoring books on quilting and traveling extensively to teach the world about the art of quilting.

Michell started her quilting career on her parents’ farm in Des Moines, Iowa, where her mother taught her how to sew at a young age. She went on to earn numerous accolades in 4-H, a degree in textile and clothing and home economic journalism from Iowa State University in Ames, developed a company in association with quilting and an educator in the field.

“She is a pioneer in the industry,” said Janet Carnahan, co-owner of Simple Threads with Carmen Dolbeare. “It’s a pretty big thing for us to be able to get her to come up here.”
