Dakota College at Bottineau (DCB) football continued their strong season as they defeated the North Dakota State College of Science (NDSCS) for the first time in program history last Saturday.
The Jacks went on the road and downed the Wildcats 14-13 thanks in large part to a strong defensive effort, especially in the second half.
The win, which came during the Wildcats’ homecoming, improved the Jacks to 5-1 on the season.
DCB scored first as they drove straight down the field on their opening possession to take a 7-0 lead.
The Wildcats tied it up thanks to a couple of long pass plays that put them in scoring position.
DCB had a strong opportunity to score before half, but NDSCS intercepted a pass that led to a rushing touchdown that gave them a 13-7 lead heading into the half.
Both defenses stepped up in the third quarter and kept the score deadlocked through three.
However, the Jacks were able to find the end zone once more and took a 14-13 lead.
NDSCS made one more surge to score, completing a couple of nice pass plays and some quarterback scrambles that set up a long field goal attempt to try and get the win.
They missed and the Jacks got their first win over the Wildcats and their fifth of the year.
Jacks Head Coach Tim Pfeifer preached that the Jacks need to find some consistency moving forward, especially on offense.
“The offense still has a long ways to go. We still make to many unforced mistakes to be a good offense,” Pfeifer stated. “When we hit on all cylinders we do some good things, but we have not been consistent enough over this whole year.”
Defensively he believed it was another solid effort for the Jacks.
“The defense had another good game. We gave up two long pass plays, but other then that it was a good effort,” Pfeifer stated. “We have a few things that we need to get better at and hopefully that will make our defense really solid.”
It was the fourth consecutive victory for DCB.
They look to make it five in a row as they travel to Moorhead to take on Concordia JV next Sunday.
