A 1-4 record in five matches meant a long week for the Dakota College at Bottineau (DCB) volleyball team.

The Ladyjacks dropped a match against North Dakota State College of Science (NDSCS) last Wednesday in Wahpeton and then went 1-3 at the Wahpeton Classic.

First on Wednesday the Ladyjacks went up against the tough Division I Wildcats of NDSCS.

It was all Wildcats in the match as they swept the Ladyjacks with 25-15, 25-14 and 25-13 wins.

Wildcats hitter Jenny Olejar had 11 kills to lead all attackers.
DCB’s Lauren Pederson led all players with 14 digs in the loss. Sophomore setter Ashleigh Aufforth had 25 assists and Krista Lesmann finished with 10 kills in the losing effort.

On Friday the Ladyjacks played the first of four matches in a tournament in Wahpeton. DCB played Jamestown JV in match one and ran with the Jimmies in the first set, but Jamestown JV squeaked out a 25-23 win.

The Jimmies used the momentum to carry them to a sweep victory with a 25-10 win in set two and a 25-14 win in the third set.

Justine Nordin was the leader for DCB as she had 14 kills. Freshman Tessa Walters added four ace serves in the losing effort.

The Ladyjacks looked to snap their losing streak in their second match of the day against the NDSCS Alumni team.

It looked good for the Ladyjacks as they took a lead with a 25-23 win in the first set. After a 25-16 loss in set two, the Ladyjacks earned another 25-23 win in set three to take another lead.

However, the Alumni bounced back and took the fourth set 25-18 and then kept their momentum to win 15-11 in the fifth and final set.
Despite the tough loss, several Ladyjacks performed well.

Aufforth finished with 42 assists. Pederson, a freshman, had 60 digs in the losing effort. Walters and Lesmann were both in double figures in kills with 12 and 11 respectively. Lesmann also added 28 digs. Sophomore Leah Parizek finished with 26 digs and seven kills.

The Ladyjacks finally broke the streak on Saturday as they were able to get a four-set victory over Hibbing Community College (HCC).

DCB took home commanding wins in the first two sets 25-15 in set one, and 25-18 in the second set.

After a small setback, to the tune of a 25-19 loss in set three, the Ladyjacks closed out HCC with a 25-18 win in set four.

DCB was led by Nordin, who had a team-best 12 kills and added 40 digs and three ace serves. Pederson had 52 digs to lead the team.
HCC’s Ellen Lescarbeau had 10 kills and a block in the losing effort.

DCB’s final match was against Anoka-Ramsey Community College (ARCC) on Saturday.

The Ladyjacks opened the match strong as they won 25-23 in the first set.

ARCC took back control in the match with a 25-21 win in set two and a 25-20 win in the third set.

DCB forced a deciding fifth set with a 25-22 victory in set four, but it was ARCC that took home the win in a 15-9 fifth set.
Both Kayla Dahl and Agabo Okwan were in double digits in kills for ARCC.

The Ladyjacks were led by Savannah Bruce’s 13 kills, four blocks and Pederson’s 55 digs. Nordin also played well with 12 kills and 40 digs.

The 1-4 week dropped the Ladyjacks to 4-14 overall on the season and 1-4 in MonDak play.

DCB will host Williston State College at 7 p.m. on Wednesday in a MonDak match up. The Ladyjacks will also host Lake Region State next Monday, Oct. 7.
