Titans run over Sioux

Towner-Granville-Upham (TGU) came into Westhope and spoiled the Westhope-Newburg-Glenburn (WNG) Sioux’s homecoming last Friday as they remained undefeated.

The Titans used a strong first half to down the Sioux 40-18.
The loss dropped the Sioux 4-2 and improve the Titans to 6-0.

TGU took a lead early as Kendal Green scored once on the ground and once on an interception. Eli Luna tossed a touchdown to Colter Thorp to put the Titans up 20-0 after the first quarter.

Green scored once more before halftime to take a 26-0 lead at the break.

WNG made a comeback in the third quarter as senior Hunter Braaten found fellow senior Ethan Miller for a 58-yard score.

Braaten rushed for a score later to draw the Sioux within two scores.

Luna put the Titans up 34-12 by rushing in both a touchdown and a two-point conversion. Luna found Hunter Schell for a 65-yard score in the final frame to close out the TGU scoring.

Braaten scampered 68 yards for a score late in fourth to close out the scoring for the Sioux.

In total Braaten rushed for 127 yards. Braaten went 14-for-33 for 187 yards, but threw four interceptions.

Miller finished with three catches for 103 yards in the losing effort.
Defensively Braaten led the Sioux with 12 total tackles, a forced fumble and two tackles for a loss.

Senior Hawkin Smette, who returned from injury in the game had 17 total tackles, including two for a loss.

Chance Kitzman picked off a pass, and Chas Tofteland had three tackles for a loss.

The Sioux have another tough challenge next week, when they travel to St. John to play the 5-1 Woodchucks.
