The Dakota College at Bottineau softball team improved to 6-0 on the fall season with a doubleheader sweep of Lake Region State College last week in Devils Lake.
It was a spectacular pair of games for the Ladyjacks pitching as they allowed only two hits in the doubleheader.
In game one it was freshman Taylor Glass earning her third win of the season as she pitched six strong innings in a 10-0 victory.
This fall she is 3-0 without allowing a run in three games and has allowed only five hits in those three complete game shutouts.
“Our pitching performance from Glass was what I’ve come to expect and once again our defense was solid,” stated Jacks coach Mike Getzloff.
Offensively DCB ripped nine hits and scored runs in every inning except the first.
Amanda Cain, Jess Carson and Amber Gable all collected a pair of hits in the win. Katharin Jetty added a triple.
“Cain had a big game for us,” Getzloff stated. “She had two hits, scored three runs and knocked in three runs.”
Game two went even better for the Ladyjacks as they rolled past the Lady Royals 11-0 in five innings.
Again, DCB received a spectacular performance on the mound as sophomore Danielle Gibson went the distance without allowing a hit.
The no-hit win was her third straight victory this fall.
“Gibson did a great job of keeping the ball down, and our infield did a great job of making the plays,” Getzloff stated. “Eleven of their outs came on ground balls.”
At the plate the Ladyjacks ripped 11 hits and scored five runs in the opening inning to open up a big lead.
Again Cain and Carson ripped a pair of hits and were joined by Heidi Riley and Bethany Colman in the multi-hit game.
“Offensively we hit the ball pretty well,” Getzloff stated. “Riley and Cain hit a couple of deep balls for triples, and Cain had a second straight game where she hit the ball hard.”
Cain finished with six runs batted in on the day.
Cain also came up big defensively as she saved Gibson’s no-hit bid with a terrific catch in deep center field.
“We are 6-0 in the fall having out-scored our opponents 61-4,” Getzloff stated. “Our pitchers have given up just two earned runs.”
The Ladyjacks may be playing a couple more games this fall against Minot State, but it depends on availability. Otherwise they will have to look to continue their winning ways next spring.
