A stout defensive effort earned the Dakota College at Bottineau (DCB) Lumberjacks their third straight victory last Sunday.
The Jacks, now 4-1, traveled to St. Peter, Minn. to take on Gustavus Adolphus JV.
They took it to the Gusties and won 39-21.
DCB scored on their opening drive and didn’t look back.
The Jacks defense didn’t allow a score in the first half.
“The defense set the tone early and had a great first half, holding them scoreless and causing three turnovers,” stated Jacks head coach Tim Pfeifer.
Offensively though Pfeifer was disappointed once again.
“The offense sputtered off and on all day long,” Pfeifer stated. “We had many nice drives that ended with fumbles, penalties and dropped passes.”
As for the future Pfeifer believes that the Jacks will have to shape up if they want to compete with some tough upcoming opponents.
“As we move forward, we believe we can improve on many areas of our football team,” Pfeifer stated. “We must fix our problems on offense if we are going to beat some of the teams coming up. We cannot keep hurting our offense with these kinds of mistakes.”
“If we can eliminate some of these things, then I think we can compete and have a great end to our season,” Pfeifer added.
Stats were unavailable by press time for the game.
The Jacks’ next contest will be at 1 p.m. on Saturday in Wahpeton, where they will take on the North Dakota State College of Science Wildcats.
DCB’s next home game is at 6 p.m. on Oct. 18 as they host Mayville State JV.
