In a 37-7 win the Dakota College at Bottineau (DCB) football team felled the Mayville State JV, getting their third win of the season and second in a row.

The Jacks found the end zone early and often. They kicked off the game with a three and out stop of the Comets, and marched down the field for a score.

A Mayville fumble on the ensuing kickoff led to another score to put DCB up two scores to nothing.

The defense was stout throughout the first half, but the offense fell behind.

“The next quarter and a half the defense played great and the offense sputtered,” stated Jacks head coach Tim Pfeifer. “We had many good scoring opportunities and could not get it back in the end zone until right before half.”

The second half continued the strong defensive play by the Jacks.

“The second half continued much like the first half with missed opportunities,” Pfeifer stated. “We were able to get a couple of scores but for the most part the offense struggled with penalties.”

The defense though was the MVP as they didn’t allow a score all day. The lone Comets touchdown came on a pick six.

DCB improved to 3-1 on the season with the win. Up next for the Jacks is a game at 1 p.m., next Sunday in Minnesota against Gustavus Adlophus JV.

Pfeifer likes the way the Jacks have improved, but knows there is still a long road ahead.

“We are happy with the way we are progressing,” Pfeifer stated. “We think we  are getting better each week, but we still have many things that we can clean up and get better at.”

The next DCB home game won’t be until Oct. 18 when they host Mayville JV.
