Bottineau’s Cody Longie will be plenty busy this hockey season.
The Bottineau-Rugby Braves all-stater from a year ago recently learned that he made the final roster for the Fargo Force.
The Force are a Tier 1 junior hockey team in the United States Hockey League.
“It’s really nice, and I didn’t expect to make this team,” Longie said. “But I’ve always wanted to play on it.”
Longie went to their training camp after a successful senior campaign with the Braves, where the defenseman scored 26 goals and notched 37 assists for 63 points, third best in the state.
“They said that I just worked hard throughout the training camp, and that’s why they kept me,” Longie said.
He hopes to use that offensive ability, as well as his size, 6’, 200 pounds to play some strong defense.
“I’m just going to play defensively and keep the puck out of the net,” Longie said. “Maybe make some plays offensively too.”
Longie hopes to find a niche and contribute during the season for the Force.
He also hopes the exposure of making and playing on the Force will help gain interest from Division I college hockey programs.
“I just want to get a better role throughout the year, and make an impact,” Longie said. “Hopefully the middle of the year I can get committed to a D-1 team.”
The Force went 38-19-7 a year ago, they opened their season last Friday with a 3-2 win over Sioux City.
