Amy Sand has accepted a position with Natural Resources and Conservation Services and will be serving the agency as its district conservationist.
Sand was born and raised in Bottineau and is a 1997 Bottineau High School graduate.
She attended Dakota College at Bottineau for one year before going on to North Dakota State University where she earned a double major in soil science and natural resource management.
For the past 11 and a half years, Sand has been employed with the NRCS, starting with the agency as an intern soil conservationist to her present day position.
Sand added that as a career intern soil conservationist, interns are under agreement that they will be moved around to different field offices to gain better work experiences.
Once Sand went through the intern program, NCRS offered her a position as a career conditional, and just recently as a district conservationist with a move to Bottineau.
She has also been an active district conservationist and has acted in Bottineau, Rugby, Cando, Towner, Minnewaukan and Rolla.
Sand’s duties in her new position will be to assist farmers and ranchers with conservation programs, oversee the NRCS’s duties, supervising employees and working with the district’s programs within Bottineau County.
With her new position, Sand is excited to start her new journey with the NRCS in her hometown.
“I really enjoy what I do, I really have enjoyed being at soil conservation for all these years,” she said. “I thought it would be exciting and challenging for me to become a district conservationist and make that step up and do a supervising position. I think it is the perfect fit for me.”
Amy is married to Noel Sand of Souris. The couple makes their home in Willow City and farm in the Bottineau and Souris area.
The couple has three children, Jacob who is six, Marie is three and a half and Eric is six months.
Sand’s parents are Bruce and Sara Knudson.
