Juniors and seniors from five high schools in the local area spent Monday at Dakota College at Bottineau to be introduced to colleges and careers.
The North Central Education Cooperative, in association with Dakota College at Bottineau, hosted the annual college fair in Bottineau with a large number of exhibitors from colleges and business professionals that spoke with the students about what colleges have to offer and the type of careers that are out there in the working world.
Students from Bottineau, Belcourt, Rugby, Sawyer and Westhope came to Bottineau for the day where they spent time with exhibitors in the morning and went to round table discussions in the afternoon.
In the morning session, students were given the chance to speak with business exhibitors to college recruiters about specific fields. For those who had an interest in aviation, those high school students had the opportunity to try out a flight simulator to give them a realistic experience in flying an airplane.
At the afternoon discussions, topics of college life, financial tips, job outlooks, social networking at the professional level, work place skills and expectations, stress management and more were granted to the students.
“The goal is to get students in contact with area businesses and colleges and give them some ideas of what career paths to take, along with bullet points of what classes to take with specific careers,” said Andrew Gilbertson, project director of North Central Education Cooperative.
“What they are now doing in high school, and what they will have to do in college to get to their careers, is assisted with events like this one at Dakota College at Bottineau.”
