Dakota College at Bottineau softball rounded out their 2014 recruiting class recently as they signed Amanda Cain from Redmond, Ore.
Cain was a two-year starter for her school in Oregon’s second-highest class, 5A.
Cain played both first base and outfield in high school and was selected for All-Conference as a junior and was a top power hitter as a senior.
DCB hit three home runs last season, so Cain will be key next season.
“Amanda has some pop in her bat which is something we lacked last season,” stated coach Mike Getzloff. “She will give us some power in the middle of our lineup.”
Cain hit five home runs last season as a senior and Getzloff said she will likely play first base for the Ladyjacks next season.
The addition solidifies DCB’s infield according to Getzloff.
“With the addition of Amanda, I feel we will have a chance of being a solid team both offensively and defensively,” Gezloff stated. “We have three new infielders to go along with returning second baseman Bethany Colman, who was one of our better players last year.”
“If we can keep our players healthy, I feel we have a good chance to go deeper into the postseason than we did a year ago,” Getzloff added.
