Alexis Heil has had one busy summer with her job of walking dogs for community members, a job which lead her to Fargo this past month to become a master in the art of walking dogs.

Heil, who is 12 years old and a seventh grader at Bottineau’s Junior High School, has been walking dogs for the past three years. Two months ago she started walking Alicia Lorenz’s new dog.

A few weeks ago, Lorenz decided she wanted to learn how to care for her dog better and found a dog trainer in Fargo who accepted Lorenz’s request of letting her train Lorenz and her dog. With the appointment set-up, Lorenz asked Heil if she would like to go with since she walks the animal, which Heil was thrilled to accept.

“I like dogs, I like all animals,” Heil said. “I like playing with dogs and I enjoy walking with them.”

While at training school, she learned more about how to walk dogs and how to give the animal commands in how to sit and stay.

Heil said that she enjoyed her time at dog training school.

“It was a fun time,” Heil said. “I learned so much.”

With the training completed, Heil is excited to be home and with her dogs once again. Something local residents can see as she walks by them with a smile on her face and a dog on a leash as she goes down the sidewalk with excitement in her eyes.
