Races at Thunder Mountain Speedway north of Bottineau did run, despite another sloppy day of weather.

A thick mist covered the fans and racers at 4 p.m. when the races were to begin. Cars circled the track to try and dry it out, but after almost an hour of trying things were not looking good.

Drivers and officials met to decide whether to race or not, but the rain soon quit and after a quick blading of the track races were then underway.

Sport stocks

In the sport stock division Brian Bellew was the big winner on the day. The bullish driver smashed his way past the field in both the first heat and the feature race to earn the top amount of points on the night.

In the second sport stock heat race though it was Jamie Smith who earned the checkered flag.

In the feature Bellew won despite trailing Chris Romfo for the first half of the race. A caution caused by a Smith spin out, led to Romfo entering the pits. When he would return he was forced to the back of the race, and wound up in sixth place.

Bellew got the win easily besting Steve Beckedahl.
The point standings after the Aug. 4 races for the sport stocks are:

1. Steve Beckedahl 195
2. Kevin Smith 193
3. Matt Hunter 189
4. Brian Bellew 186
5. Jamie Smith 185

Midwest modifieds

As for the modified division it too was dominated by one racer. Grant Hall was leaps and bounds better than his competitors on the night as his No. 4 car zoomed to wins in both the first heat and the feature.

Ray Smith notched a victory in the second heat, but the feature belonged to Hall. Hall edged Scott Blintz for the win.

Lance Schill was runner-up to Hall in the first heat and a runner-up finish in the second heat belonged to Kyle Lovcik. Jarrett Lovcik finished third in the feature.

The Legends cars were also up at the track for both a heat and feature race. Results were unavailable, but the hearty fans that remained after the delay were entertained none the less.

The races on Sunday were both counted as Kids Night and the Harvest Classic.

The next action at TMS will be at 7 p.m. tomorrow (Wednesday) for the ICMA Sportmod/Hobby Stock challenge.

Remaining races will be at 4 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 18 for the Steven Peck Memorial race. Championship night is set for Aug. 25.
Weather permitting of course.
