Area football players, who were seniors last season, competed in a pair of bowls recently.
Three Westhope-Newburg-Glenburn players took part in the Saskota Bowl in Rolla on July 13.
Two area players then competed in the Shrine Bowl in Fargo on July 20.
On July 13 players from North Dakota and Saskatchewan met in Rolla for an all-star contest of the best seniors from both areas.
Three players from the Sioux took part in the game. They were Karlie Hancock, Kodie Hancock and Logan Hermes all of Westhope High School. The three seniors were integral in the Sioux’s run to the Class A Dakota Bowl.
Saskatchewan won the game 28-8.
The other all-star contest was the annual Shrine Bowl, which was played on July 20 at the Fargo Dome.
The game pit the east versus the west in a battle between 11-man football players.
Two Bottineau County players participated in the game, Trevor Wettlaufer of Bottineau and Karlie Hancock of Westhope High School.
Karlie Hancock ran the ball 11 times for 32 yards and scored a one-yard touchdown in the second quarter for the east team.
Wettlaufer had four carries for seven yards for the west squad.
However, the west was the winner as they scored three straight touchdowns to complete the 42-41 victory.
