Bottineau’s Crazy Days has received an expansive makeover in 2013.
Due to the efforts of the Bottineau Chamber of Commerce and other institutions around town the 2013 Crazy Days, which run from Thursday through Saturday has expanded to include a laundry list of events all over town.
A big part of the effort has been led by Chamber director Clint Reinoehl.
“Crazy Days has not been what it was in the past,” Reinoehl said. “So we decided to really get after it and make it as big as possible this year.”
And big they did.
As opposed to previous years, which mainly focused on sidewalk sales and shopping, the 2013 Crazy Days added three days worth of events including a car show, parade, veterans activities, live music and a lot more.
“We wanted to incorporate as much of the community as possible,” Reinoehl said. “We didn’t want to just include a couple blocks on Main Street. We wanted to include everybody.”
The events start on Thursday with sales on Main Street and registration for camping, the auto show, as well as several raffles, contests and kids games.
It will also include a man cave swap meet on Thursday, Friday and Saturday at Tweed Country Ag.
Crazy Days really kicks into gear on Friday as the opening ceremony takes place at noon, and a car smash, inflatables and many other things take place at the fairgrounds as well as across town.
“While there will be times when there definitely will be a lot of people at the fairgrounds, the idea is, come to this up here and then go out into the community,” Renioehl said.
The festivities even extend to the Lake Metigoshe area as hot rods will particpate in the 4 Seasons Playground Cruze from 5 to 8 p.m.
There will be live music and beer gardens beginning at 9 p.m. at the fairgrounds to close out the night.
Reinoehl said that the organizers really wanted to make this more than a one day deal.
“We don’t just want them to stay one day, so we tried to spread some things out, and have enough stuff going on so every day is going to be unique,” Reinoehl said.
Saturday is also jammed with events that start with an American Legion breakfast at 8:30 a.m. and continues with an extended parade with possibly 300 entries at 11 a.m.
The moving parade will include the hospital, go west down Highway 5 and in front of the Good Samaritan Society in addition to the usual route down main street and back up Thompson Street.
Festivities close with an award ceremony at 4:30 p.m.
Many more events are included in the celebration. A full list of events is listed on page A10.
Thus far, Reinoehl is really pleased with all the help and efforts from those involved.
“It’s been really nice to have people step up and volunteer their time and efforts,” Reinoehl said. “I’m really pleased with how it’s come together.”
Volunteers are still needed and anyone who wishes to help can contact Reinoehl at 228-3849.
With everything planned, the only wish for Reinoehl is for good weather.
“Now if we can get the weather to cooperate, it looks good right now, but it’s Crazy Days, so you never know what’s going to happen,” Reinoehl said. “Hopefully it will all go well.”
