After a year away from the sport Krista Jo Lesmann, a 2012 graduate of Glenburn High School has signed a letter of intent to play volleyball for the Dakota College at Bottineau Ladyjacks for the 2013 season.
Lesmann attended Minot State University last year, but decided to take the opportunity to come back and play for DCB.
“I regret not playing immediately out of high school, and I am very excited to get a chance to play again,” Lesmann stated.
Lesmann had initially had an offer to play for Lake Region State College out of high school.
A reason for the decision would be the size of Bottineau and the school after living in Minot for a year.
“I’ve always enjoyed being in a small town, so it will be a nice change to leave Minot,” Lesmann stated.
Lesmann will join sophomores Ashleigh Aufforth and Leah Parizek who played in high school at Bottineau and Surrey respectively and played against Lesmann in high school.
“Luckily for our program, the three student-athletes are familiar with each other from high school allowing chemistry to be built more quickly,” stated Corey Fehringer, DCB’s coach.
DCB is coming off of a solid season where they were 15-16 overall, a 10-win improvement from 2011. Fehringer believes Lesmann will be a solid, local recruit that can help them improve even more.
“She is a strong local addition who has the ability to play multiple positions with defense being her primary threat. Our Ladyjack team will benefit from her versatility on the offensive and defensive sides of the net,” Fehringer stated. “Most importantly she is not only a talented volleyball player, but also a strong student in the classroom. We are very excited to have Krista join the Ladyjack program and we look forward to her positively impacting the team.”
Lesmann is expected to be a defensive specialist for the Ladyjacks next fall.
