Dr. Robert Hamilton, M.D., has accepted a position with St. Andrew’s Health Center and will serve the health facility as a physician focusing on emergency room care.

Hamilton was born and raised in Woodward, Okla. From high school, Hamilton joined the United States Marine Corps and spent his first six years with the Corps’ helicopter squadron as a rotor mechanic. He reenlisted and served out his time in the Marines with the military police and corrections.

After being honorably discharged from the Corps, Hamilton attended Northern Oklahoma College and the University of Central Oklahoma. Upon graduation with his undergraduate degree, he was accepted and graduated from the University of Oklahoma College of Medicine-Tulsa.

Hamilton conducted his residency in family medicine at the University of North Dakota’s Center for Family Medicine in Minot. Once he completed his residency, he accepted a position as a physician in Cando for two years and then became a locum tenen physician serving health care facilities throughout North Dakota that were short physicians to cover during physician vacation time, on-call and routine office visits.

One of the health facilities Hamilton served in as a locum was St. Andrew’s Health Center. After spending two years in Bottineau, St. Andrew’s offered him a full time position, which he accepted.
At St. Andrew’s, Hamilton will primarily be the attending physician for the ER, allowing the other medical care personnel in the facility more time to focus on their clinicals and having time off from the emergency room. Hamilton, at times, will also fill-in for the other physicians at St. Andrew’s Bottineau Clinic when they are not available.

Hamilton and his wife, Erika, have three children, Alice who is five years old, Matthew who is three and Maren who is three months old.

In the Hamiltons’ spare time, they enjoy doing family activities such as t-ball, swimming and bicycling.

As for Hamilton and his new position in Bottineau, he stated that he enjoys being in the local area.

“I really like working here in Bottineau. It’s a great community, great town and you get to know everybody,” Hamilton said. “As for the center, it has great staff, fantastic nurses and their care is hard to beat.”
