The annual meeting of the Lake Metigoshe Recreation Service District (LMRSD) was held at 10 a.m. last Saturday at the Quilt Inn.
The meeting, led by chairman Mark Pewe, addresses the concerns of Lake Metigoshe citizens concerning garbage and sewer.
Pewe led the meeting by announcing new superintendent Mike Hall and his new assistant Jeremy Kittleson.
“Mike is replacing Clay Pettis, who served for us for a multitude of years,” Pewe said. “Mike was serving as the assistant for several years, so he’s filled his shoes well.”
After that garbage committee director Diane Dignan gave her report. She touched a few areas of concern.
“I must reitterate that garbage must be put in covered, animal-proof cans,” Dignan said. “You cannot throw out a plastic sack on Sunday night and expect to be there on Monday. Between the raccoons, the cats and the crows it makes a large mess.”
She also urged neighbors to leave torn apart garbage bags alone, so that the offenders can see what leaving the bags out does.
Then Hall gave his report on the sewer situation. He touched on the lakes sewer history as well as work that has been done in the past year and work that will be done in the upcoming months.
“We get really busy in the summer, but if you see a red light flashing, just call us,” Hall said. “There is a sticker that has our number on the panel, and we’ll get right over there.”
Next came secretary Reno Strand’s report of the meeting minutes from last year’s meeting as well as his financial report.
According to secretary Reno Strand the LMRSD had $616, 407.84 available at the end of last year spread across 10 different funds, including garbage and sewer.
The board then discussed a water quality test that Hall and Ketterling will be performing this year.
Working in conjunction with the health department on a large water testing project, it will take place all summer as they sample six sites in the lake and send the samples to Bismarck. They will do that every other week until the lake freezes.
“It’s going to be quite extensive,” Hall said. “We should get the results two weeks after we send them in.”
Pewe then explained why they are doing the testing.
“We’re looking at monitoring certain areas of the lake to make sure they are clear of infiltration,” Pewe said about the water quality testing.
Lastly the board voted for new directors and introduced new member and director Mark Adams.
“I’ve been coming to Lake Metigoshe for over 50 years, and I was the first sewer hook-up on the lake,” Adams said. “We really had doubts that it would ever work, but it has saved the quality of this lake, and it continues to do so.”
“It’s going to be big shoes to fill Les Turner’s shoes,” Adams added.
Members of the LMRSD board include: Mike Nehring, Mike Meyer, Brian Jensen, Mark Pewe (chairman), Jack Woods, Diane Dignan, Valarie Zwak, Roger Nelson and Reno Strand (secretary) and Les Turner (not present).
