Weather affects scores as season winds down

The Bottineau and Westhope-Newburg boy’s golf teams inched closer to the end of the region season this past week with their final individual qualifier and a meet in Rolla last Tuesday.
The season was supposed to end for both the Sioux and Braves on Monday, but the meet was postponed until Tuesday due to weather.
Bottineau and Westhope-Newburg began the week in Northern Lights’ home course on a windy Tuesday meet.
With gusts more than 50 miles per hour the players scores were up a bit from previous meets.
Bottineau finished second at the meet with a four-person total of 394. It was their second runner-up finish this season. Northern Lights won with a 347. They had three of the top five golfers.
Both the Braves and Sioux were represented in the top five as well as Hunter Braaten took fourth place with an 86 and Zack Monson took fifth with an 88.
Other scores used to make Bottineau’s second place total were the 95 of Taylor Parisien, a 103 from Levi Pollman and a 108 from Garrett Pollman.
Other golfers included Ethan Jensen and Phil Neubauer, who each shot 111.
Bottineau bested third place Bishop Ryan by nine strokes.
On Friday the region teams gathered at Bottineau as well for the final individual qualifier of the season. This meet, as well as Monday’s team qualifier, was supposed to be held in Harvey, but due to course conditions was moved to the backup site of Bottineau.
It was again Northern Lights’ day as they took home first place as a team and qualified one of only two people who qualified for state. Myhre shot a 73 and led NL to a 337 and first place finish. Jack McClintock of Rugby also qualified for state with a 79 and Rugby took second with a 349.
Westhope-Newburg had a total of 380 to tie for fifth place and Bottineau tied for seventh with a 381.
Braaten finished in fourth place with an 81 as an individual. Bottineau had their own top 10 finish as Parisien shot an 88 to tie for seventh place.
Other scores for Bottineau included Monson’s 93, Austyn Lorenz shot a 111, Jensen’s 96, Neubauers 104 and Garrett Pollman’s 105.
The Class B State Golf Meet will be held on May 27-28 at Prairie West Golf Course in Mandan.
