The Bottineau Braves baseball team stepped up to the plate in a major way as they demolished the Rolette-Rolla-Wolford (RRW) Comets 15-5 in five innings last Thursday in a Region 5 play-in game.
The win extended the Braves season and got them into the Region 5 Tournament held in Cando.
Both teams traded blows early on as RRW scored three times in the top of the first and Bottineau answered back with three of their own to even the score.
The Braves then scored twice more in the bottom of the second to take the lead.
They never relinquished it.
Bottineau exploded for 10 runs in the final two innings to close out the win.
All nine starters recorded hits for the Braves and five batters had multiple hits.
Bottineau was led by Casey Tooke, who went 3-for-3 with two runs and two runs batted in (RBI).
Also strong at the plate were Lee Schneider (2-for-4, three RBI), Parker Engelhard (two runs, two RBI), Andrew Hill (three runs, two RBI) and Luke Amsbaugh (three runs, two RBI).
Amsbaugh also pitched a complete game for the Braves, going all five innings and allowing only seven hits and three earned runs.
Bottineau clocked 15 hits and had three errors in the victory.
Bottineau began their attempt to defend their region title yesterday in Cando, but scores and stats were unavailable by press time. They started that defense at 11 a.m. with a game against second-seeded Harvey-Wells County.
