Wettlaufer qualifies for state in 400

Both the Bottineau Braves and Stars track and field teams attended the Panther Booster meet in Rugby last Thursday.


The Braves used 91 points to capture a third place finish, while the Stars finished ninth with 27 points.

Bottineau’s success came on the backs of six first place finishes and two state qualifying performances.

Senior Trevor Wettlaufer qualified for state and took first place after a 52.23 second finish in the 400 meters. Junior Harrison Aide again vaulted 14 feet to take first place and qualify for state for the second time this season.

Senior Ty Domben took first place in the 800 meters with a 2:15.73 second performance. Other first place finishes came from the 800 relay team of Aide, Wettlaufer, Cody Beaver and Ethan Kerslake as they clocked in at 1:36.34, the 1600 relay team of Kerslake, Wettlaufer, Domben and Hunter Tooke and Owen Furby, who took first in the shot put with a 44-foot, five-inch toss.

Furby also finished third in the discus with a hurl of 113-feet, six inches.

Other top finishers for Bottineau were Beavers sixth place finish in the 100 meters (12.13 seconds) and third place finish the 200 meters (24.98 seconds) as well as Kerslake’s second place finish in the 400 (53.65 seconds).

The Stars had four strong finishers including three top-three finishes from junior Courtney Gallagher. Gallagher finished second in the 100 meters with a time of 13.62 seconds, second in the 400 meters with a 1:04.79 seconds and third in the long jump at 15-feet, 11.75 inches.

The final top six finish came from Sydnie Nelson who took fourth in the 1600 meters with a time of 6:01.76.

The Braves and Stars enter their final week of qualifying chances as the state meet approaches. Bottineau will participate in the region meet on Saturday in Rugby.

Both the Braves and Stars participated in a last chance meet in Devils Lake yesterday, but results were unavailable by press time.
