Golfers from Bottineau and Westhope-Newburg girl’s golf teams opened their season last Friday in Underwood at Westridge Golf Course.

Wind and lack of outdoor play made scores higher than typical for some teams on the day. Host Central McLean won the tournament with a score of 398. A big part of that came from individual medalist Samantha Cottingham’s 82.

For Bottineau they finished with a fifth place total of 519. Individual results were unavailable.

Golfers who competed for Bottineau included: Ashley Blue, Abby Bristol, Cheyenne Sturlaugson and Alexis Kihle.

Jade Teske from Westhope-Newburg finished in fifth place as she completed the 18-hole score of 98.

Rugby finished second place with a 404 stroke effort.

The team scores are determined by using the top four 18-hole scores from the six golfers that play.
The next girls meet will be held on Thursday at Garrison and will be an individual qualifier. Any golfer who shoots at or below 87 will qualify for the state tournament in Bismarck on May 27-28.
