Both the Bottineau boys and girls track teams made a strong showing this past Thursday at the Peace Garden Conference Meet at Johnson Field in Rugby.

The Bottineau Braves team finished in second place with 111.5 points. Rugby’s 237 points gave them the first place team finish.

The Stars used their 64 points to finish fourth at the meet. Rugby also won for the girls with 193.5 points.

The Braves had several strong finishers that propelled them to the second place finish including first place finishes from senior Trevor Wettlaufer in the 400 meter dash (53.45 seconds); junior Harrison Aide in pole vault (14 feet) and senior Owen Furby in shot put (45 feet, nine inches). Furby also finished fourth in the discus after a 120 foot, eight inch toss.

Aide’s top place vault also qualified him for the state meet in Bismarck on May 24-25.

Bottineau’s 1600 relay team also finished first with a time of 3:55.72. The team consisted of Aide, Wettlaufer, Ethan Kerslake and Braden Pewe.

Pewe also added a third place finish in the high jump when he cleared five feet, six inches. Kerslake took home a runner-up finish in the 400 with a time of 55.57.

Another strong performer for the Braves was junior Cody Beaver. Beaver finished fifth in the 100 meters, fourth in the 200 meters and cleared five feet in the high jump to take fifth place.

Ty Domben also had a strong day as he finished second in the 800 meters and fifth in the 400 meters.

Senior Alberto Moncera finished fourth in the 100 meters with a time of 11.93 seconds to round out the Braves’ finishers.

The Stars were paced by Maria Diepolder’s first place finish in the pole vault. Diepolder cleared eight feet, six inches to capture the win. Diepolder also took second place in the 400 meters with a 1:06.84 finish.

Junior Courtney Gallagher was another engine for the Stars. Gallagher captured a first place finish in the 100 meters after running it in 13.69 seconds. She also once again leaped a state-qualifying mark in the long jump with a 16 feet, six inch jump and a second place finish.

Other finishers for the Stars included junior Bailey Neubauer, who finished fifth in the 100 meters and fourth in the 200 meters and Catherine Wuster who finished sixth in the 200.

Bottineau will have another chance to reach state qualifying marks before the region tournament when they travel to Rugby on Thursday this week.

They also competed yesterday at Devils Lake but finishes were unavailable by press time. The region meet is held in Rugby on May 18.
