St. Andrew's kicks off its centennial

St. Andrew’s Health Center kicked-off its 100 anniversary, in association with National Health Week, on Sunday afternoon with a number of activities that brought individuals from across the state to take in the festivities.
The day started off with a free meal at St. Marks Social Hall, which was followed by a blessing by Father Paul Schuster for St. Andrew’s Health Center in front of the hospital.
From the blessing, St. Andrew’s held a Time Capsule Burial which Dr. Ken Kihle, the longest standing physician at St. Andrew’s who has provided for the health facility for 53 of its 100 years, covered the time capsule up with a golden shovel representing 100 years.
A CD of the history of St. Andrew’s Health Center, CD of the Sisters of Mary of the Presentation’s health system; St. Andrew’s Auxiliary membership listing, St. Andrew’s Auxiliary’s donation listing, physical therapy exercise sheets, St. Andrew’s Health Center billing statement from 1948, Bottineau County oil projections, photograph of the Bottineau Ambulance crew, St. Andrew’s Foundation newsletter, St. Andrew’s Health Center brochure, the Bottineau Courant newspaper, St. Andrew’s Health Center’s History and trivia questions and answers, radiology pictures, inflation booklet, threshold fire brochure, current room rate charges, financial CD, statistic for the past fiscal year, health insurance claim form, patient chart, thermometer, St. Andrew’s Clinic audit and statistic report, patient booklet from 1960, personnel file and employee badge, pharmacy typewriter labels, St. Andrew’s Health Center Golden Jubilee program, St. Andrew’s Health Center 75th Anniversary booklet, St. Andrew’s Health Center 100th anniversary booklet with program and magnet, St. Andrew’s Health Center 2013 Hospital Week and 100th celebration events flyers and St. Andrew’s Health Center’s 2013 employees photographs all went into the capsule.
Guests to the event then went to a ceremony in the Bottineau Ambulance Training Center where Sister Carol Jean of the Sisters of Mary of the Presentation gave the opening prayer and Bottineau’s First Lutheran Church’s Threshold Choir sang four hymns.
Wayne Martian, president of St. Andrew’s Health Center’s board, along with Aaron Alton, president of the Sisters of Mary of the Presentation Health System in Fargo spoke to those in attendance and spoke of the importance of St. Andrew’s Health Center of caring for others in the last 100 years and praised its history and staff members.
The events ended with cake and fellowship in St. Andrew’s cafeteria.
