Terry Goehring received the most prestigious award given by the North Dakota Long Term Care Association (NDLTCA) posthumous on May 1 for the hard work and dedication he gave to the NDLTCA and the elderly of the state he served as an administrator in the state’s nursing homes.
“This year, the North Dakota Long Term Care Association is pleased to recognize Terry Goehring as the 2013 Distinguished Service Award recipient,” said Bev Herman, executive director of the North Dakota Long Term care Association. “In June 2012, Terry unexpectedly passed away after suffering a heart attack. He will always be remembered as a man who took time for everyone and deeply loved the profession of long term care.”
Goehring had a long career in long term care. He started his career as a nursing home administrator in 1988 before accepting a position as the administrator with the Good Samaritan Society-Bottineau in 1991, a position held until he passed away in 2012.
Outside of a successful career within nursing homes, Goehring was an active member with the Long Term Care Association. He was named the Region 1 director of the NDLTCA in 1998 and the vice chair of the association’s board in 1999.
Goehring was then named the chair of the board and served in that position from 2002 through 2005.
Goehring then joined the NDLTCA’s Development Committee and was named its chair in 2009. He also led the association conventions and fall professional development committees until he passed away.
“Terry was dedicated to the long term care profession and was passionate about God, his family, his friends and his work. He was a family man, devoting his free time to his wife, Pat; his daughter, Theresa; his grandson, Noah, for whom he had a special place in his heart. He also was very close to his mother, Violet who lives in Ashley, N.D., and his brother Tom and his family in Fort Collins, Colo.,” said Herman. “Terry also served his church as a deacon and an elder at Ebenezer Lutheran Church of Rolette, N.D. He touched many people and is deeply missed by all that knew him.
“Terry’s family, his staff at the Good Samaritan Society-Bottineau, the North Dakota Long Term Care Association Convention and Fall Professional Development Committee and the members of the North Dakota Long Term Care Association respectfully remember Terry Goehring and are pleased to honor him with the Distinguished Service Award,” Herman added.
Pat Goehring accepted the Distinguished Service Award on behalf of her husband during the ceremony in honor of her husband.
