Derrick Jackson of Louisville, Ky. became the second 2013-14 letter of intent signee for the Dakota College at Bottineau Lumberjacks men’s basketball team last week.

Jackson, a six-foot, one-inch guard averaged 15 points and five assists per game at Waggener High School.

A release by the DCB athletic department described Jackson as athletic, with strong distribution skills and lock-down defense. It also mentioned his length leads to many steals and deflections. Jackson plays by the motto, “hard work beats talent,” which the release said describes his playing style—aggressive and relentless.

Jackson took a break from school and basketball, but is excited to begin his journey at DCB.

“I am blessed to have this opportunity to play ball again,” Jackson stated.

And the Jacks, including head coach Cory Fehringer are pleased to sign him.

“We are very fortunate to add a student athlete like Derrick Jackson. He has spent some time away from the game, and he is extremely excited to get back on the court,” Fehringer stated. “Derrick is a strong athlete with a good motor who has the desire to be part of something bigger than himself. Our program looks forward to his arrival on DCB’s campus.”

Jackson joins Lorne Jay Jr. of St. John, N.D. as recruits for the 2013-14 season.
